Guys I am really sorry. Madison threw up again tonight and I just can't leave her until I can get her to keep food down. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do your work today and not play around. I WILL HAVE A SURPRISE ON MONDAY FOR THE CLASS THAT GETS THE BEST REPORT FROM THE SUB!

NO QUIA QUIZ TODAY! WE WILL HAVE A QUIZ ON TUESDAY OVER THE EXCEL VOCABULARY YOU HAVE BEEN STUDYING AND THE EXCEL FEATURES YOU HAE BEEN LEARNING THROUGH YOUR EXERCISES.

You have a lot to get done today so, every single minute counts. Get busy and work the entire class period.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:

  • Display self directions
  • Complete Excel exercises
  • Compare Excel features and Word features in a short essay (quiz)
DAILY ACTIVITIES:

1) Warm-Up- Mavis/Learn2type 10 Minutes

POST YOUR WPM ON YOUR WORDPLANNER DOCUMENTS, make sure you have any rice donation amounts posted.
BECAUSE OF THE BOX AT THE TOP OF THE SPREADSHEET YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO SEE YOUR NAME IN THE HEADER, SO FOR THIS DOCUMENT ONLY, YOU WILL CLICK ON CUSTOM FOOTER AND PUT YOUR NAME IN THE LEFT SECTION, DATE IN THE CENTER SECTION, AND THE FILE NAME IN THE RIGHT SECTION OF THE FOOTER. Print out your word planner and turn it in to the tray today. (REMEMBER THIS IS A TEST GRADE.)

2) You will be completing a short one page essay comparing MS Word features to MS Excel features today. This will be part of your Test over Excel that we will be taking next week. (This essay must be One page double-spaced, 12 pitch font, your choice of font.) SAVE IT AS: EXCEL ESSAY

YOU ARE COMPARING WORD TO EXCEL
ESSAY QUESTIONS YOU MUST ANSWER IN YOUR ESSAY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1. Explain similarities-like toolbars
2. Explain differences- wordprocessing vs spreadsheet
3. Compare the type of documents you create in Word to the documents you create in Excel.


ESSAY PRINT OUT IS DUE TODAY!!!
3) Make sure you have completed all of the following exercises, printed out with your header on it, and turn in to the tray.

Make sure you WordPlanner document is up to date with your WPM timings for keyboarding and grains of rice you donated (if you have worked on that this week).

2. Begin Assignment-Page 235-238,"QTR1"due today, printed and turned in. ***ALWAYS PRINT, DO NOT EVER CLOSE WITHOUT SAVING TO YOUR FOLDER, REGARDLESS WHAT THE BOOK SAYS***

3. Make sure you have posted the Vocabulary sentences to your blog, which were assigned on Monday. Quiz tomorrow over those terms.

4. Spend a little time reviewing for your vocabulary quiz tomorrow. Go to link Daily Activity #3 Excel Vocabulary Review; listed under the RESOURCE QUICK LINKS section of my blog and you can go to * 1. "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" - Vocabulary Review for more practice. Quiz will be in Quia. Be prepared for that.

  • 1. Active Cell-In Excel, the cell that is currently selected is called the active cell
  • 2. Cell-A cell is the intersection of a row and a column in a table or worksheet. It contains information such as text, numbers, or graphics.
  • 3. Column-A column is the vertical line of cells identified by an alphabetic label in the first cell on the top.
  • 4. Find-The Find command allows you to search for specified text and/or formatting in a document.
  • 5. Formula-In Excel, a cell entry that performs a calculations and begins with an equal sign in the cell [i.e. =SUM(A1:A20)] is called a formula.
  • 6. Label-A label is a text entry in an Excel worksheet.
  • 7. Range-A cell or group of cells that can be selected in an Excel worksheet is called a range.
  • 8. Replace-The Replace command allows you to search for specified text and/or formatting in a document and replace it with new text and/or formatting that you specify.
  • 9. Row-A row is the horizontal line of cells identified by a number in the first cell on the left.
  • 10. Value-A numeric entry in Excel is called a value.
  • 11. Workbook-A workbook is an Excel file that can contain up to 256 worksheets.
  • 12. Worksheet-A worksheet is a page—or one spreadsheet—in an Excel workbook.
